As has been described elsewhere, the SPBModel data-structure closely associates both model input and model output in a single Xml file.

All Modern Applications Use Xml

Any Independent Statistical Analysis, Spreadsheet, or Sophisticated Web Browser Application

You Can Quickly
Convert It to the Xml Specifications of the Consuming Application

What I mean is, I (Xander Lih) have provided the means for creating the data.  But I'm not a scientist specializing in how this data should be consumed.  Therefore, absent specific requests by eventual users, I created the desktop application for power-users, and the ultra-basic web-form for individual runs of the model by casual-users.

If scientists want more tools for analyzing SPBModel Southern Pine Beetle information or for creating sets of input data, and they can specifically define the desired functionality, I'm happy to create them.  But the important thing here is that the SPBModel Xml data is rich with information, and there are innumerable tools already for working with Xml generically (like Microsoft Excel) that can be used to achieve whatever data pre- or post-processing the model users may have in mind.

The model is available, in essence, as a service application; you give it a stream of Xml, it responds with another.  This is in contrast to an application that has a graphical user interface (GUI).  A GUI was created for the model, the SharpHog Spb Infestation Model Desktop Administrator.  Another GUI created for the model is the web-form. Interfaces exposing a middle-ground of functionality are conceivable, and probably desired both for the desktop and online--but to be honest these would be better created by entomologists with a little programming knowledge as opposed to a programmer with a little entomolgy knowledge.

How the input data is originally created and how the ouput data is subsequently presented is
logically and structurally not a concern
of the SharpHog Southern Pine Beetle Infestation Model.
